Jennifer Abubakar Abena – Educator and Fighter
Jennifer Abubakar Abena’s village is in a corrupt region of this country and when we interviewed her, she said “I want to reduce the level of corruption that our local community as to undergo. The police take bribes, there are gangs and inter-community warfare, it is time we put an end to this. I set up the charity to help the local people to have access to clean drinking water and the little school at the edge of the village will give access for every child to have an education.” Those were her words when we spoke to her about her region.
Initially this village looks like any other poor village in this African region. Nevertheless, upon closer inspection one may notice the small school building on the very outskirts of the village and there’s a water pump to give the local villagers fresh water. Jennifer Abubakar Abena, a 28 year old local woman is responsible, along with her father, for all these changes. She has become enormously renowned in the area for extensive charity work to change the quality of life of the villagers.
Her expectations for the future are aimed at the entire region, where she intends to make sure every village has the same access to fresh, clean drinking water and education. Together with her father, they have raised more than $10,000 dollars to fund fresh water projects to every village.
Currently, many villages in the area have poor living conditions and there is a very high level of sickness and disease. Local hospitals are very understaffed and under-equipped. There is barely enough medicine to treat every member of the community. Abubakar Abena says that her charity work will help to fund every region with all the necessities they need for a cleaner lifestyle.
